Spring Holiday Firsts

If you follow our Instagram account, you may have seen one of our images that was coloured in as a part of the Spring school Holiday camps at Totara Springs.

Why would we spend a beautiful spring day colouring in pictures? Well, what had started as a beautiful spring day had turned into a downpour and we needed to find something for all of the children to do quickly. Totara Springs has a big collection of board games, so we always have a backup activity, but having 60 children in a small room playing board games isn’t a recipe for a conflict-free day.

So colouring-in was the next idea we came up with, and with 14 free A4 sized colouring-in sheet free to download from www.hcth.co.nz we had an activity read to go in 5 minutes. One bonus in using colouring-in sheets from our Luke studies was being able to use the pictures that were being coloured in to start conversations with the children about the life of Jesus. While we originally intended for the colouring in sheets to be used alongside our written material, its great to know they are interesting enough to be used as a standalone activity (well done Anna).

But it's not just our colouring-in sheets that have been used these holidays. The spring holidays have also seen the first use of our studies as a follow-up Bible study, with 20 studies being posted out to children who asked for them at camp. While we don’t have as many studies ready to go as we would like, it's great to see that the material we have put together is being used to help children understand the Bible.
